support@ergmatic.comErgmatic works with any Bluetooth FTMS (Fitness Machine Service) smart trainer. This includes popular brands like Wahoo KICKR, Tacx, Elite, Saris, JetBlack, and Magene.
No! Ergmatic is designed to work fully offline. You can complete workouts without any internet connection. Data will sync with connected services when you're back online.
Ergmatic supports importing workouts from Intervals.icu and other platforms that export standard workout files. Simply connect your account in the app settings.
Ergmatic requires iOS 18 or later and is available for iPhone. iPad support is coming soon.
Ergmatic automatically saves your progress. When you reopen the app, you'll be asked if you want to resume from where you left off or discard the interrupted session.
ERG mode automatically controls your trainer's resistance to match the target power for each interval. Your trainer adjusts resistance based on your cadence: pedal faster and resistance decreases, pedal slower and it increases, keeping you at the prescribed wattage.
Yes. You can increase or decrease the target power by a percentage while riding. This scales all intervals up or down, useful if you're feeling stronger or more fatigued than expected.
When enabled, Ergmatic pauses the workout if you stop pedaling for a set duration (3-15 seconds, configurable). The workout automatically resumes when you start pedaling again. This is helpful for quick breaks without losing your place.
Yes. You can connect a separate power meter via Bluetooth and select it as your power source. Long-press the power display during a workout to switch between your trainer's power reading and your external power meter.
Power Meter Matching makes your trainer target the wattage shown on your external power meter, not just your trainer's built-in measurement. When enabled, the app automatically adjusts the resistance commands sent to your trainer so that your power meter reads the prescribed workout power. This gives you consistent power numbers indoors and outdoors when you train with the same power meter you ride outside.
Any Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) heart rate monitor is compatible, including chest straps (Polar, Garmin, Wahoo) and arm bands (Coros, Polar). Some smartwatches from Garmin and Coros can also broadcast heart rate via Bluetooth. On iOS 26 or later, you will be able to use your Apple Watch or AirPods Pro 3 as a heart rate source directly (Ergmatic support coming soon).
Most modern smart trainers are factory-calibrated and don't require regular spindown calibration. Check your trainer manufacturer's documentation for their specific recommendations. If your trainer does support spindown calibration and you notice power readings seem off, you can perform one in Settings → Devices after warming up for 10-15 minutes.
Make sure Bluetooth is enabled and your trainer is powered on. Your trainer can only connect to one device at a time, so close any other apps or devices that might be connected. This includes cycling apps like Zwift or TrainerRoad, cycling computers (Wahoo, Garmin, Hammerhead), and smartwatches. If issues persist, try power-cycling your trainer.
Yes. Connect your Strava account in Settings to automatically upload completed rides. You can also enable manual upload if you prefer to choose which rides to share.
Intervals.icu is a free training analysis platform popular with cyclists. Ergmatic integrates with it to sync your scheduled workouts and upload completed rides. If you follow a training plan on Intervals.icu, your planned workouts appear directly in the app.
Yes. When enabled in Settings, Ergmatic saves your rides to Apple Health including power, heart rate, and cadence data. This allows your cycling workouts to count toward your Activity rings.
Each ride records: average power, normalized power, average heart rate, average cadence, power zone distribution, and total work in kilojoules.
Ergmatic supports .ERG files (used by TrainerRoad, Zwift, and others) and .FIT workout files (Garmin format). You can import these by opening them from the Files app or email.
Connect to Intervals.icu to access your training calendar and workout library. You can also find free .ERG files on sites like What's on Zwift, TrainerDay, or export workouts from other platforms.
Not currently. Ergmatic focuses on executing workouts rather than creating them. You can build custom workouts on Intervals.icu or use free online ERG file builders, then import them.
FTP (Functional Threshold Power) is the highest average power you can sustain for about an hour. It's the foundation of power-based training. Ergmatic uses your FTP to calculate your power zones and scale workout intensities to your fitness level. To learn more, check out BikeRadar's FTP explainer or Cycling Weekly's FTP guide.
The Ramp Test is a progressive fitness test to determine your FTP. Power increases every minute until you can no longer maintain the target. Ergmatic calculates your FTP based on your highest completed stage. It's a shorter, less mentally demanding alternative to the traditional 20-minute FTP test.
Go to Settings → Athlete to enter your FTP manually, or complete a Ramp Test to have it calculated automatically. You can also sync your FTP from Intervals.icu if connected. If you're new to power training and unsure of your FTP, the Ramp Test is a good starting point.
iPad support is coming soon. Currently, Ergmatic is available for iPhone only.
Yes. Ergmatic uses iOS Live Activities to display your current power, target, and time remaining on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island without unlocking your phone.
Bluetooth is required to communicate with your smart trainer, heart rate monitor, and power meter. Ergmatic cannot control your trainer or read sensor data without this permission.
There's no standalone Apple Watch app, but on iOS 26 or later, Ergmatic can use your Apple Watch as a heart rate source directly, with no separate chest strap needed. AirPods Pro 3 heart rate support is coming soon.
